Golden Brown Semolina Pudding in clarified butter Ready to Eat Sooji Halwa. Just heat 3 mins and enjoy!

Halwa is an Arabic word but the art of making it has spread all the way from the Mediterranean Sea to the Bay of Bengal. Halwas are easy and delicious Indian desserts having a pudding texture. They can be prepared with all kind of ingredients such as lentils, flours, fruits, grains or vegetables.

One of the simplest and more common is the semolina based Sooji Halwa traditionally cooked by mothers at home. Popularly called Sheera, Sooji Halwa is made from semolina, or sooji, popularly called sheera. Sheera is made from semolina, roasted golden brown in clarified butter, milk sugar, cardomom, nuts and raisins. A dessert that is popular in all parts of India, Sheera is served along with the meal or as the dessert after the meal. Serve it warm or cold, by itself, or with hot puris for a quick snack.

The smell is so good when cooking this delicious dessert that we used to say that you know the halwa is cooked when your neighbors can smell it! The trick to getting sooji ka halwa right is in the browning of the sooji (semolina) and in the proportions of liquid to grain, so follow this recipe exactly to get the best results. If you feel adventurous, try this recipe of sooji halwa.
