Made from chickpeas, the chickpea flour, is not only included in Indian cooking but is also used as a cosmetic product. Besan is one of the healthiest flours used in Indian cooking.

This flour is packed with proteins, fibres and various other minerals and vitamins. It aids in digestion and boosts our immunity as well. It also elevates your thirst making you drink more water hence benefitting the metabolism.

Used by almost all the states in India, this flour is used in Rajasthan to make the famous gatta curry, in Gujarat for making khandavi and one of the most delicious snacks, the batata vada in Maharashtra and the besan chilla (try this amazing recipe that is a great alternative to egg omelet for vegans!). During the monsoon, Indian families cover a variety of vegetables with a mix of besan and water which is then fried to create a hot and juicy Pakora snack to enjoy with tea.

Homemade besan face packs made with rose water offer glowing skin and helps treat oily skin. It can be used as an anti-tan mask with turmeric and lemon juice and as an anti-tanning agent when mixed with honey.
